No word of a lie, we’re convinced we’ve seen more and more Ocado vans frequenting our street lately! It makes sense, too, as the latest noises coming out of Ocado are that the company is forecast to make massive improvements on its initial losses when it reports its first annual results as a quoted company.
The company’s expected to announce pre-tax losses of £11.6 million to the period ending November 2010. Those figures may not look too good on paper, but when you consider that the year before Ocado’s losses stood at £25.5 million, then they’ve done incredibly well to claw back some financial ground in trying times.
After November 2010? Ocado had a fantastic Christmas, which is pleasing to hear, setting them up for a profitable 2011. It seems the appetite for grocery shopping from home has never been higher, and the seniors at Ocado have done well to carve out a niche in such a competitive search market. We think one of the secrets of their success has been customer retention in trying times, especially when delivering to consumers affected by the bad weather.
Customer retention is essential for good search engine optimization (as it is in every business), and Ocado give visitors to their website every reason to return with updated, front page blog snippets showing the latest news, easy access to current social media updates, their best offers and more.
Ocado are doing what most have been doing through the recession – keeping calm, carrying on and link building where they can. But their figures have been more impressive than most during tough times, and though their range only extends to their own brands and Waitrose’s line, by keeping their core customers happy and coming back for more online is keeping them going in the right direction.
